Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater firefighters were called out to tackle a big blaze involving 500 bales of hay on a farm in Cossington during the early hours of Saturday (June 3rd).
The crews attended the incident in Whitchey Drove shortly before 1am on Saturday.
The crews remained on scene until 6am to fully extinguish the blaze, working with hose reel jets and compressed air foam jets to protect the nearby barn and allow the main fire to burn out.
A spokesman said: “The Fire Service received a call reporting a large amount of hay on fire. Two fire appliances from Bridgwater and Burnham-On-Sea were mobilised.”
“On arrival the Incident Commander requested the attendance of a Water Carrier which was sent from Bridgwater.”
“This incident involved approximately 500 bales of hay. Crews were at work with a Hose Reel Jet and a Compressed Air Foam Jet, allowing the main fire to burn out.”
By 6.18am, they confirmed the fire was out and the incident was left in the hands of the land owner.
