Burnham Harriers running club makes donation to town’s BAY Centre

-

Burnham-On-Sea Harriers Running Club has this week made a donation towards the cost of much-needed repairs at the Burnham Area Youth Centre.

During the recent closure of King Alfred Sports Centre, the BAY Centre kindly allowed the members of Burnham Harriers to use their premises as a base for their weekly training runs. Therefore, to thank the centre for its support, the members decided to make a donation.

“Having seen a recent report on Burnham-On-Sea.com about the centre’s leaking roof windows, we heard there was a need for funds and decided to make a donation of £500,” said the club’s Brian Beale.

“This money has been accumulated by the hard work and dedication over many years of club members on the promotion of the Burnham Half Marathon, the Brent Knoll Race and the Beach Race.”

Burnham Harriers is a community club which has in the past made donations to BASC for their superb race facilities, and Burnham Junior Rugby Team to sponsor their after-match shirts.

Meanwhile, it’s hoped that the club’s latest initiative, the Parkrun, at Apex Park will start early in 2015. There are a number of groups that have shown interest in assisting with this and we are hopeful that it will go ahead. The money that has been granted by the local councils has been ring-fenced and will only be used for the Parkrun set-up costs.
