FOURTH crash in a week at accident blackspot near Burnham

Emergency services were shocked to be called to a fourth crash in a week at an accident blackspot near Burnham-On-Sea on Monday – just yards from where another vehicle crashed the day before.

The driver of this Vauxhall Astra flipped over into a ditch while driving along Harp Road between the villages of Mark and Brent Knoll following further heavy rain.

Police and fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea were called at 8.20am to the accident which was in sight of Sunday’s crashed car, as pictured above.

A spokesman said the shocked occupants inside had managed to scramble free without serious injuries.

Cllr John Denbee, Somerset County Councillor for the area, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Harp Road is a bendy, busy road that links through to the A38. I would support local calls for extra warning signs to advise motorists to take extra care. I will have a word with the powers that be at the council.”

Monday’s crash, pictured above, came just hours after police were called on Sunday August 23rd to a Renault that gone off the road into a ditch just yards away. While there were no reported injuries, the incident again raised safety questions.

We also reported last week how fire crews from Burnham and Glastonbury were sent to Harp Road on August 19th after a car left the road and ended upside down in a water-filled ditch with two people trapped inside, who received treatment from the ambulance service. A few days earlier, another car had also come off Harp Road nearby, as pictured below.
