A group of volunteers in Burnham-On-Sea that helps needy people across the area celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday (January 28th).
Dozens of people attended the celebration at the Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street, including Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke.
‘Hands of Change Burnham’ was launched in January 2016 with the aim of making small, but positive changes in the local community.
The format has proved so popular that a new sister group is launching in Cheddar called ‘Hands Of Change Cheddar’.
Over £600 was also raised on Saturday towards the costs of running a new pop-in centre in Burnham which will help needy residents, such as those who are lonely or who need advice and help.
During the evening, there was live music, a human auction offering things like gardening, dog walking, massage, basic computer training, a craft session, and more plus a raffle of artwork donated by the street artists of Spray Jam and local businesses.
The group’s Helen Brodie said the evening had been a great success in raising awareness and funds for the group, with a BBC Somerset radio feature also being broadcast on Saturday.
