Parents have this week been warned that a confirmed case of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease has been found at a Highbridge school.
Churchfield Primary School’s headteacher Wendy Nelder wrote to parents on Tuesday (March 15th) to advise them about the discovery of the illness.
A leaflet outlining the risks and symptoms has also been distributed to parents.
It explains that the illness starts with a sore throat and fever, followed by blisters developing on the inside of the mouth and tongue, plus sometimes on the palms of hands, fingers and toes.
Young children in nursery settings are particularly vulnerable to the infection and adults and older children may also develop it in a milder form. The disease is not usually serious and usually clears within a few days.
