Police in Burnham-On-Sea will launch a high-profile operation this evening (Saturday, October 31st) to ensure Halloween is a safe night for residents.
They have pledged to crackdown on any anti-social behaviour and are working with shopkeepers to ensure everyone is able to enjoy the festivities of Halloween in the right spirit.
Retailers have been encouraged to support the police in refusing to sell flour and eggs to unaccompanied under-18s. Extra high-visibility police patrols and partner agencies will again be about in Burnham, targeting potential anti-social behaviour hot spot locations.
An exhibition has been held in Burnham-On-Sea Library, pictured above, in recent days to further promote the safety drive.
Joint visits by police and trading standards officers will also be taking place throughout the night to ensure traders are not selling fireworks or alcohol to people under the age of 18-years-old.
Chief Inspector Martin Hull told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Halloween has become one of the busiest nights of the year because of the increased numbers of calls we receive from the public and we aim to have sufficient staff on duty to answer the calls. We urge people not to abuse the 999 calls system and only report genuine emergencies.”
Police request that people only use 999 for emergencies and that nuisance behaviour from youths should be referred to the police’s non emergency line – 0845 456 7000.
