Three young Burnham-On-Sea hair stylists were among 30 ‘apprentices’ who took part in a hair and beauty show held on Monday evening (June 16th) to shine the spotlight on the talents of those being trained at Weston College’s Business Enterprise Centre.
The women – Chelsea Tilley, Laura Carberry and Kristina Gergo from Burnham – took part in the ‘Apprentice Celebration Evening’ at Cadbury House Hotel Health Club near Congresbury.
Organiser Hayley McKinstry, Work-based Co-ordinator for Hair and Beauty for the Business Enterprise Centre, said the event had been a great success: “We organised the event for people in the area to see how talented our apprentices are and to find out how apprenticeship training can help businesses and young adults.”
As well as the hair and beauty show, where Apprentices were assessed by four judges from the industry, the Apprentice Celebration Evening also included a demonstration from two catering Apprentices.
Apprentice chefs Andy Woodly and James Day, who work under Gordon Ramsay-trained Head Chef Mark Veale at the health club took to the stage to show off their culinary skills to guests at the event along with BBC TV presenter Susan Osman and the Chairman of North Somerset Council, Councillor Ian Porter.
The College’s Performing Arts students opened and closed the event with a dance show and they also performed live music during the evening.
During the event, the Business Enterprise Centre helped raise money for Weston Hospicecare. Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed for employees aged 16 and above.
