A Burnham-On-Sea group which organises art events across the town held its annual general meeting this week when its members looked back at a successful year.
The Highbridge and Burnham Artists group oversees the annual River Brue visual arts festival and also organised the painting of a colourful mural on the walls of Burnham Sailing Club earlier this year.
Chairman Clive Hammond-Lovatt told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This year marked our first venture as an independent group after the dissolution of the Regeneration Partnership.”
“We have learned much from the partnership, but we also recognise that we can learn more and apply the knowledge learned to raise the profile of art and artists within Burnham and Highbridge.”
“To that end the Treasurer and Chairman attended an evening course on applying for funding. Sources of funding have been problematic and generally difficult to obtain through the normal channels, but we did receive a grant from Sedgmoor Council, for which we were very grateful and the Yacht Club bought some paint and local retailers provided prizes for our art competition.”
“All HABA artists gave their time and in some cases materials free of charge. This reflected the commitment and will to build upon the success of the Brue Festival 08.”
