A Highbridge singer has this week entered the race to become MP at this Spring’s General Election, saying she wants to become ‘the voice of local people’.
Gypsy Watkins, who is well known locally for her impressive singing performances and distinctive hairstyle, has announced she is running as an independent candidate at May’s election.
Gypsy, 32, says she would like to ‘bring a breath of fresh air’ to the campaign by offering voters a completely different alternative to traditional party politics.
“I am a straight talking person who stands up for the rights of all people,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We need someone who is passionate about the real needs of the people of Somerset.”
“There needs to be a move away from the traditional ways by the established political parties.”
Gypsy, a singer by profession, a company director and a mum of three, says: “I am strongly in favour of human rights. I know about the hardship being felt by many people, and I am very passionate about getting their issues addressed.”
The election will see Liberal Democrat MP Tessa Munt defending her seat against the Conservative’s James Heappey, Labour’s Chris Inchley, UKIP’s Jeffrey Bolter, and The Greens’ Jon Cousins who have also declared their intention to run in this year’s election.
