Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and across Somerset are tackling a big grass fire in Berrow today (Sunday).
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the fire, in the sand dunes near Berrow Church, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that more than six fire engines have been seen at the fast-spreading blaze.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been tackling the fire with grass beaters and other equipment – and several fire appliances are on part of the golf course,” eyewitness Bill Rogers told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We’ve seen flames in the grass at several locations. In this warm, dry weather the fire can spread so quickly.”
Members of the public are being asked by the emergency services to keep away from the area of the fire and not to put their own safety at risk.
Flames can be seen in the dunes grass in these pictures, photographed by Burnham-On-Sea.com readers Alex Crocker and Ron Tropman.
Plumes of smoke can be seen rising into the sky above the dunes where the fire is taking place.
