Sedgemoor District Council has this week given thousands of pounds of community grants to good causes in Burnham-On-Sea.
It follows the authority’s Grants Committee meeting held on Tuesday (19th January).
£1,250 has been given to Burnham-On-Sea Railway Heritage Group to help fund the acquisition and installation of a railway signal on Marine Drive where the railway used to run and an original signal and signpost where the platform used to be. The grant is subject to match funding being received.
£500 has been handed to a gifted local swimmer who has qualified for the Olympic trials in Glasgow. This grant will help towards the cost of a new skin race suit, travel, accommodation and entry fees.
£835 goes to Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society to help advance and develop public education in the appreciation of the art of choral music by the presentation of two major concerts alongside several smaller events.
Sedgemoor’s total grants budget in 2015/16 is £60,500. £51,780 has been awarded so far this budget year.
