Deadline looms for Burnham-On-Sea graffiti competition

-

Young graffiti artists in Burnham-On-Sea have just a few days remaining to enter their spray-painted designs into a competition being run by the town’s Youth Centre.

The BAY Centre is holding the contest in order to decorate the exterior of its building in Cassis Close.

Noreen Beckinsale, secretary of the BAY Centre’s Local Action Team, explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We want to brighten up the outside of the building and make it look more like a youth centre.”

“The winning entries from this competition will be re-created on several wooden boards. Young people will be able to literally make their mark on the building.”

Noreen added: “Graffiti is often given bad press, but that shouldn’t always be the case. There should be an understanding that graffiti is not all bad and can be a positive art, providing that it is discouraged in inappropriate places.”

The competition will involve the best three entries from School Years 7-9 and the best three from Years 10+ getting the chance to paint their designs onto the display boards at the BAY Centre.

Designs need to be drawn or painted on A4 or A3 sized portrait paper and handed in at The Shed Reception at the BAY Centre with a name, year group and telephone number clearly shown by the closing date of May 30th.
