A sixth form student from Highbridge’s King Alfred School is celebrating striking gold.
Catherine Lodge has been awarded her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and will soon be travelling to St James Palace to receive her certificate.
It follows two years of hard work in which she learnt new teaching skills and sports officiating and carried out an expedition in North Wales, comprising of a 50 mile hike around Snowdonia in four days.
A school spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The school offers its congratulations to Catherine, who is the first pupil on role to complete her Gold Award and also the first person in Somerset to complete their Gold Award under the new EDofE system.”
Catherine will be receiving an invitation to go to St James Palace very soon where she will be receiving her certificate from either the Duke of Edinburgh or Prince Edward.
