These were the scenes at Brean Down on Sunday evening (April 18th) when fire crews were called to rescue a goat that was believed to have become stranded on a cliff edge.
After two dog deaths on the steep cliffs during the last month, a walker called out local animal rescue charity Secret World and the fire service amid concern that the goat was stuck on a grassy cliff ledge and could plunge down the cliffs.
Secret World’s Laura Gill told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the scene: “The young goat had been heard bleating loudly for several hours from the cliff face and seemed to be in distress, so there was concern for its welfare.”
The goat was on the southern side of the Down near Brean Cove.
Two fire crews from Burnham and Bridgwater were sent to investigate and a climber was lowered down the cliff on ropes in a bid to reach the animal.
However, the goat scrambled up the cliff face unhurt when the climber approached – ending the incident.
A crowd of onlookers watched the unusual 90-minute incident unfold from the beach below.
