Fire crews from across Somerset, including Burnham-On-Sea, were among dozens of fire fighters tackling a major blaze at a scrapyard near Glastonbury on Thursday (June 26th).

The blaze near the site of the Glastonbury Festival has led to tailbacks around the site and two people were taken to hospital with minor burns.

Thirty homes were evacuated after the fire broke out at Rossiters scrapyard at around 11.30am.

Fire spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A bulk foam tender was also requested and mobilised from Burnham to help deal with the incident. Numerous appliances are in attendance from all over the county and neighbouring counties.”

Part of the A37 was closed as sixteeen fire crews attended the blaze. Explosions from gas bottles on the four-acre site were audible up to half a mile away.
