Proud moment for Highbridge PCSO as she receives community award

-

A popular member of Highbridge’s police team has this week received a top accolade after being named ‘PCSO Of The Year’ for Somerset West in the annual Community Policing Awards.

PCSO Gill Bawler received her award from Dr Moira Hamlin, Chair of the Police Community Trust and Police Authority, as pictured above, during a special ceremony.

PCSO Bawler told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m thrilled to receive the award and would like to thank the Highbridge community, not only for taking the time to vote for me, but for all the support they have given the Beat Team over the last year.”

“I feel proud to be a part of a dynamic community that not only wants to improve, but gives up their time to make it happen.”

As we first reported earlier this year, Gill was instrumental in setting up the successful Highbridge Dreamscheme and has also spent many years working with Highbridge Youth Club on the town’s Morland estate.

Following a record number of entries in the overall competition, including 407 nominations for the Police Community Support Officer of the Year award, the judges picked six finalists across the Avon and Somerset Police region – with Gill scooping the honours in Somerset West.

The Community Policing Awards encourage local people to nominate their Neighbourhood Beat Manager, PCSO, Special Constable and Neighbourhood Teams.
