There was a huge surprise in store for the guests at this year’s Burnham United Juniors presentation night when England’s 1966 hero Sir Geoff Hurst appeared on stage to present the trophies.
The surprise visit was the prize the Club won when Treasurer Sally Plume entered an FA competition, which she thought she had no chance of winning.
The club’s younger players enjoyed a party as part of their own presentation evening, before meeting Sir Geoff for pictures and some priceless memories.
The main presentation saw the under 14’s celebrate winning the Knock Out cup for the second year running and Sir Geoff presented a special award to Paul Skinner, pictured below, to celebrate 45 years at Burnham Juniors.
Sir Geoff handed out awards to the club’s top young players of the season.
Those presented included Players Of The Year – Connor Lefrere, Liam Rosser, Harry Wilkinson, Charlie Valentine, James Duckering, Cain Smith, Scott Beard, Harry Ratcliffe, Jordan Podbury, Kieran Moores, Daniel Butt and Connor Gardner.
The Players Players Of The Year were Joe Priddice, Kieron Clayton, Chris McIntosh, James Boston , Joe Rosser, Kade Parkinson, Shae Clements, Finlay Paul, Daniel Rosser, Rhys Bertenshaw, Daniel Solomon and Alex Plume.
The Top Scorers awards went to Luke Harper, Connor Lefrere and Ryan Stiles. The Top keepers were Jack Manlow, Christopher McIntosh, George Talbot and James Newman.
Sir Geoff also presented the Club Awards to Sally Plume, Daniel Jefferies, Gary Faulkes and Andy Low.
Juniors Chairman Paul Sealey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was an amazing evening for all those that attended. The Club would like to thank Sir Geoff, Brean Leisure Park, their sponsors, managers, committee members and helpers for their continued support.”
Burnham Juniors are always keen to welcome new players, aged 5-15. Those interested in joining the club should contact Paul Sealey on 07843 733033.
