A team from Burnham-On-Sea’s Gemini Tae Kwon-Do Club have scooped several top medals at a regional competition.
Gemini Tae-Kwon-Do club, who train at King Alfred School, competed in four adult classes at the weekend’s SE England Tae-Kwon-Do Championships.
Taking place in Guilford, this competition attracts adult and junior competitors from across the south with London, Midlands, Welsh, South West and South East clubs taking part.
Senior club instructor Jane Lambert told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We entered three adult students in patterns, sparring and tag-team competitions.”
“They had all been so focused before the event and trained exceptionally hard – it is great that all that hard work has paid off.”
“We have been providing the highest quality tuition for the whole family since 1994 and seeing them achieve their goals is so rewarding.”
She added: “It isn’t all about competitions and medals though, whether your goals are to develop your self confidence, improve your self defence skills, personal development, fitness, flexibility or to earn your Black Belt, Gemini Tae Kwon-Do will take you there.”
Rob Lambert – who has been training for 4 years at the Cheddar and Burnham-On-Sea schools with his 9 year old son – competed against 12 other red belt students in the sparring and patterns competitions. He won a bronze medal in both divisions.
Sarah Milner Simonds – who trains twice a week at the Burnham-On-Sea school and competed for the first time this weekend – made it to the final in her division and fought hard in the sparring final, giving her opposition a really tough battle to achieve a silver medal.
Bev Milner Simonds also trains twice a week at the Burnham school and this was her second competition.
She won both her final in the sparring and joined forces with two other competitors to form a tag team. She was delighted to bring a gold back to Gemini Tae-Kwon-Do.
All three are now making plans to attend the British Championships later in the year.
Gemini Tae-Kwon-Do trains every Tuesday and Thursday at King Alfred School.
