GCSE students in the Burnham-On-Sea area were celebrating on Thursday (August 23rd) after achieving an excellent set of results.
For a second year running, the students at Highbridge’s King Alfred School performed well with 62% achieving the headline figure of five or more grades at C grade or above, including English and Maths.
The school also recorded its highest-ever figures for five or more GCSE grades at C grade or above (87%).
Pupils bucked the national trend by achieving a massive increase in the top grades with A*/As (GCSE) up by 48% and Distinction*/Distinctions (BTEC/OCRs) up by 73%.

Headteacher Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with these outstanding results which reflect the hard work and commitment of the students.”
“I’d like to thank our parents, our staff and our partner primary schools who all play such an important role in the education of our young people.”
