Highbridge firm gives town disability group an £820 boost

One of the area’s biggest employers has this week donated more than £800 to Burnham-On-Sea’s Gateway Club.

Isleport Foods has handed over a cheque for £820 to the club to help fund its annual summer trip for adults with learning disabilities.

Isleport Foods spokeswoman Sue Marsh told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “As one of the largest local employers, we are proud to support community projects within Burnham and Highbridge. It is important to us that our employees choose which projects we support, and we have a charity committee made up of eight employees.”

“All employees are able to suggest a project to support but the committee specify that it must be local, receive little funding from elsewhere and support local people. Tina visited the Gateway Club and suggested the project to the committee who all felt that it was a great project to support as it absolutely matched their criteria.”

“We wanted to fund a specific event or piece of equipment rather than just make a donation so it was suggested that we fund the transport for their annual trip. We donated a total of £820 to cover the cost of the coach.”

The Gateway Club last year celebrated its 30th anniversary and provides social activities for local adults with learning disabilities.

The doantion was presented to the club’s leaders by Tina Keatley (Isleport Charity committee member) and Sue Marsh, Isleport’s HR Manager
