Garden centre’s expansion scheme wins approval of district council

-

Controversial proposals to build a new entrance and covered walkway at Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll have this week been approved by district councillors.

Members of the council’s development control committee met at Burnham’s Princess Theatre on Tuesday (June 2nd) when they gave a green light to the scheme.

The decision comes despite an objection from Brent Knoll Parish Council and two further letters of opposition.

Brent Knoll Parish Council was unhappy that the store’s proposed new roundabout on the A38 had not been progressed, while Burnham Chamber of Trade requested that the scheme should not “impact the vitality and viability of Burnham town centre.”

Brent Knoll district councillor Cllr Bob Filmer, who was at Tuesday’s meeting, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Members felt that this was a one-off application that represented a small alteration to the store with no follow-on implications.”

“There was some discussion about the roundabout but it was agreed this was not part of this planning application.”

“The scheme was approved by a majority of councillors. Also, the conditions dictating which products the centre can and cannot sell have also been tightened up.”
