Burnham-On-Sea took another battering on Thursday (December 7th) as further strong winds and heavy rain hit the town.
The Environment Agency took the precaution of closing flood gates at the town’s jetty and at Maddock’s Slade during the height of the morning tide as the 60mph winds whipped up big waves, sending them crashing into the sea wall and pier, as pictured above.
A large area of the Bristol Channel – from Porlock to Avonmouth – was placed on a Flood Watch several days ago as the threat of stormy weather loomed large.
It comes as the Met Office warns of more bad weather for coming days, with rough seas continuing during Friday.
Just days ago, weekend storms in Burnham led to trees being brought down and buildings being damaged.
