The organisers of Highbridge’s annual Apex Park Playday have been given a funding boost this week.
A £2,500 grant has been awarded by Sedgemoor District Council’s Grants Award Committee to the Friends of Apex Park towards the summer Playday held at the park.
The popular free event has become one of the biggest Playdays in the region, and last year attracted over 7,000 visitors.
This year, Apex Park Playday will be in its 15th year and takes place on Wednesday 7th August from 10am-3pm.
Chairperson of the Apex Park Playday Committee, Rosie Pike, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the new funding is ‘very welcome’.
She added: “Unfortunately, the Playday committee were disappointed with the amount of donations received from members of the public last year.”
“If everyone donated just a £1 for each child into the donation buckets, funding for play day would be covered each year.”
“Every year, it is becoming more and more difficult to access funding, so the Playday Committee is extremely grateful to Sedgemoor District Council for the grant of £2,500.”
The Playday Committee consists of a small group of people who meet throughout the year and work closely with Sedgemoor District Council in order to organise the free event.
On Playday, thousands of children and families get out to play at hundreds of community events across the UK. As well as a celebration of children’s right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.
