Local beach clean groups receive funding boost from Hinkley Point C

-

Beach cleaning groups in Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow have this week been given a funding boost from a Hinkley Point C community grants scheme.

The groups are among six new organisations sharing over £33,000 in the third round of awards from the Hinkley Point C Community Fund Small Grants Programme.

Volunteers from the Friends of Berrow Beach and Burnham Beach meet regularly to collect litter from local beaches and have received a grant of £2,650.

A spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the “grant will buy additional beach cleaning equipment, helping the volunteers tackle waste on the beach.”

The Hinkley Point C Community Fund Small Grants Programme supports projects that seek to mitigate the impacts and take advantage of the opportunities of the Hinkley Point C build.

Charities, voluntary groups or social enterprises considering applying for the funding must normally operate on less than £100,000 a year. Applications to the fund, which generally awards grants of up to £5,000, can be submitted at any time, as decisions are usually made every 6 – 8 weeks.

If you run a local community project and would like to find out more about grant funding in general, call Somerset Community Foundation on: 01749 344949 or visit: www.somersetcf.org.uk

The scheme, administered by Somerset Community Foundation, has made awards to Cruse Bereavement Care – Somerset, Bridgwater; Nourish Bumps, Babies and Breastfeeding, Cannington; The Quantock Foodbank, Watchet; Minehead Cycling Club, Minehead; and Wembdon Cricket Club.
