A former Burnham-On-Sea councillor says his identity has been cloned by fraudsters on Facebook who have been asking people for money using his name.
Dennis Davey says his personal profile has been copied over the past week and all his Facebook friends were approached by the scammer who asked for financial help in his name.
“It is very unsettling that this can happen – I have contacted the Police and they are investigating,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Meanwhile, the personal security settings on my Facebook account have been tightened up to prevent it happening again.”
“I would ask anyone locally who has been approached over the last week to be wary.”
