Burnham-On-Sea town centre footfall jumps 10% year-on-year

-

The number of people visiting Burnham-On-Sea’s town centre has risen by almost 10 per cent in a year, according to new figures.

The Town Council’s football cameras have recorded a 9.6% year-on-year increase in the number of people visiting the High Street compared to the same period last year.

The number of visitors counted during the week commencing June 26th 2017 was 57,977.

A Burnham Chamber of Trade spokesman said: “We welcome this increase in footfall, which has been helped by our Project Coach initiative bringing in extra coach visitors to Burnham, and the recent publication of our shopping guide leaflet. 50,000 copies have been printed and are being distributed across the South West to promote Burnham as a destination.”

“The good weather has also helped to bring in extra people into Burnham town centre and the opening of B&M has probably helped numbers too. Shoppers are finding Burnham has a wide variety of independent shops and great places to eat.”

Cllr Phil Harvey told a town council meeting on Monday evening: “It’s great to see Burnham bucking the trend.”

And Cllr Michael Clarke added: “The town centre has been very busy over the last few weeks – a good start to the summer.”
