Burnham-On-Sea footfall figures buck regional trend with increase

-

New footfall figures for Burnham-On-Sea show the town centre is bucking the downward trend in the south west at the start of the busy summer holiday season.

Data from the footfall cameras in Burnham’s High Street reveal the number of people in the town centre during the first week of the school holidays was up 1.8% year-on-year.

Over the same period, footfall in the south west was down 5.5% and down 5.2% in coastal towns across the UK.

The number of visitors counted in Burnham High Street during the week commencing 23rd July was 67,451. The busiest day was Saturday with 11,693 visitors, while the peak hour of the week was 11am on Wednesday with a footfall of 1,621.

A Burnham Chamber of Trade spokesman said: “Footfall figures in Burnham have been very mixed this year, so we are pleased to see the town bucking the downward trend seen elsewhere.”

“The Chamber is leading a successful ongoing project to bring more coach passengers into Burnham, while our shoppers guide booklet has been distributed across the region, and we have a summer shop window treasure trail underway to encourage more people into our town centre, which all helps.”

“Burnham has a great range of independent shops, pubs and eating places to visit all year round.”

The cameras are installed outside the Railway pub at the northern end of the High Street and on the YMCA charity shop at the southern end.
