Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress have this week congratulated a Burnham school’s football team who have become county schools’ champions.
St Andrew’s Junior School Under 11 team won the Somerset large primary school’s tournament final after a close encounter.
The players – Kieran, Joe, Jack, Abdallah, Adam, Bryan, Finlay, Harry, Jack P, Paul and Luke – entered extra time against Milford Junior School of Yeovil and won with a corner kick in the dying seconds of the game.
Captain Jack Spence scored the winning goal with his left foot to seal a memorable win.
Deputy head teacher Gavin Morris told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was an amazing win, they are the most successful team the school’s had.”
Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Derick and Christine Cooper, visited the team at the school this week and called them “a credit to Burnham.”
