Football club calls ‘foul’ over dog poo issues at Highbridge sports ground

-

Burnbridge Wanderers Junior Football Club has issued a plea to dog owners not to allow their pets to foul Highbridge Recreation Ground, where matches are played every week.

Darren Field from Burnbridge Wanderers JFC  told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The issue with dog excrement at the Rec is relentless.”

“Every week without fail there is a large amount all over the pitch of which our Managers and Coaches have to clear as best they can before the start of every match.”

He adds: “Ultimately it will affect play as kids will become reluctant to perform at their best as a result.”

“It also paints a bad image for the facilities and area to visiting teams as they too are affected.”

“The minority of dog owners need to get a grip and take responsibility and have a thought of the wider impact. Litter and vandalism in this area can also be a problem.”

Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up their pet’s poo and can be issued with a fixed penalty notice and if this goes to court the fine could reach £1,000.

Sedgemoor District Council has installed dog bins and signs near the pitch and adjacent play area, as pictured here, but dog owners continue to ignore them.
