Young people in the Berrow and Brean area are being invited to sign up for free football coaching sessions as part of an initiative from Avon and Somerset police.
Local police officers have worked with Berrow Parish Council, who own the Multi Use Games Area in Berrow, to establish twice weekly football sessions.
With an average of 15-20 boys and girls turning up to each session, the force is encouraging other budding sports stars to come along to the sessions.
The sessions are held on Monday evenings from 5.30-6.30 pm (for 14-17 year olds) and Thursday afternoons from 4.30-5.30pm (for 8-14 year olds).
Following the police’s successful application for funding, over the next month it is hoped that a professional football coach will be joining the sessions to teach the players skills and techniques.
PCSO Tracey Grobbeler told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “As the nights are getting lighter and young people have more time on their hands now is a great time to get involved in sporting activities.”
“The sessions are free and are open to those at any level who are keen to develop their football techniques and get active. As well as learning new skills and making friends, the sessions are a chance for young people to have a really fun game of football.”
Due to the lack off pavement between Berrow and Brean, Pontins have donated the use of their minibus, complete with a driver, to transport local young people from Brean to the sessions.
