Police and Foodbank help needy residents in Burnham and Highbridge

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Police have teamed up with the Highbridge Area Foodbank to help those in need this winter.

The Foodbank launched earlier this year to help those in serious financial need through no fault of their own, due to such things as unemployment, illness, benefit delays, or an unexpected or large bill which can result in a family or individuals having insufficient funds to buy essential food.

Emergency food is available from the Foodbank for three days, allowing other agencies to then step in with a more permanent solution. Each person helped can come back to the Foodbank up to three times each year.

Sgt Ian Kennett from Burnham-On-Sea Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Working with the Highbridge Area Foodbank group we are now in possession of a number of food boxes, which we will able to distribute to anyone we feel might be in need of them.”

Jim Hanmer, from The Highbridge Area Foodbank, added: “The Highbridge Area Foodbank was established this year to provide emergency food to help those in our area who are in crisis.”

“We are delighted that the Police are supporting this project through Burnham Station, this does mean they will be able to supply food to people they encounter during the course of their duties who are in need.”

“The food is generously donated by members of the public and we are very grateful to them for their help.”
