The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s Food & Drink Festival have announced the two winners of their Local Food Hero Awards for 2015.
Berrow Beef has shown a commitment to sourcing and producing authentic and delicious food rooted in the local area.
And Leggland’s Orchards has shown an unparalleled provenance and attention to detail to create a great range of Somerset products.
Festival Director Beverley Milner Simonds said: “We created these awards to celebrate the traders who we feel have backed the festival, a drive for their businesses and deserve some public recognition for their hard work and commitment.”
Fellow Director Sarah Milner Simonds added: “We are looking forward to welcoming thee traders and 90 others to the festival on Saturday 23 May – we hope you agree that we have brought the best of Somerset into the town for the day.”
Sarah Welland of Berrow Beef added: “We are thrilled to be awarded Local Food Hero 2015 by our local food festival. It’s a real honour to be recognised by others; when we are so proud ourselves of providing top quality, grass fed, native breed beef to the local market, at an affordable price. I also know there are a lot of other excellent food and drink producers locally, so for us to be recognised with this award is fantastic – thank you.”
And Louise Perrin of Leggland’s Orchards said: “We’re thrilled to receive this award – genuinely unexpected. We’ve worked hard to develop a range of traditional and contemporary handmade preserves and this acknowledgement encourages us to continue and come up with fresh ideas. People always ask us if we make it all ourselves. Of course we do!”
“And they want to know where we source the ingredients – in most cases we can show you the tree or bushes. We always get a buzz at the Burnham Food Festival. It’s the best organised food event we attend. This is our third year now and it is an established date in our diary.”
