Food and drink producers from across the region will be heading to Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday (September 29th) for the town’s first ever Food and Drink Festival.

Over 40 stallholders and 14 fringe festival events will be in the Baptist Hall in College Street and Burnham’s Princess Theatre in addition to displays in shops and venues across the town from 10am.

James Odger from Stream Farm, who will be exhibiting in The Princess, said: “Our aim is to encourage small-scale, local farming and our farmers produce food, apple juice and water of the highest quality so the food and drink festival at Burnham this coming Saturday is exactly the right sort of venue for us.” He said he is especially looking forward to “the looks of genuine surprise” when people try its produce for the first time. “How often have we heard people say ‘oh, this is just like I remember the taste of food at my granny’s house when I was young’.”

KDS Interiors are a kitchen design company in Victoria Street who will be hosting two suppliers at the festival. “We wanted to support Beverley and Sarah, the festival organisers, in their first Food & Drink Festival venture and to share in the experience of bringing like-minded people together to celebrate what Burnham and the surrounding area can offer by way of food and drink,” said the firm’s Kay Rossiter. “I am personally looking forward to sinking my teeth into a South African Sausage prepared by Skip from Kalahari Lapa and a tasting glass of wine from JJ Brands – and showing people our great range of kitchens!”

Sue Milverton from the Clavelshay Barn Restaurant, another festival exhibitor, added: “I wanted to get involved to help celebrate the wonderful food and producers which we have in this area and I am most looking forward to sampling the delicious food and drink!” The Clavelshay Barn have a series of Good Food Workshops running in September and October and a special “Farm to Table” menu on the evening of 4th October.

During the day, The Great Burnham Bake Off cake making contest will be held. Bake a cake, fill in an entry form and bring your cakes to the Baptist Hall by 2pm on the day for a chance to win the trophy, which is sponsored by Burnham’s Positive Wealth Creation.
