The winner of ITV1’s series BBQ Champ was a surprise visitor at Burnham-On-Sea’s Food & Drink Festival on Saturday (October 31st).
Simon Dyer, 52, was crowned the nation’s champion griller in a five-part summer TV series hosted by celebrity Myleene Klass.
Simon will be demonstrating his barbecuing skills at Burnham’s next Food Festival in May and was invited along to see Saturday’s event as a taster.
Simon, who has built 20 barbecues from scratch and loves cooking outside so much that he can even be found grilling meat on New Year’s Day, said: “You have a great festival in Burnham and I’m looking foward to being back in the Spring.”
A ‘barebecue takeover’ is set to be held in Burnham’s town centre next May when Simon will be showing his skills.
Simon, who forages wild garlic for his creations, previously said: “This is something I love doing. I am an outdoor person and I am a farmer. I love the whole thing of lighting a fire, preparing food and then cooking. It’s relaxing. Doing the TV show really pushed me to new levels and make me take on things that I have not attempted before.”
A team of eight contenders from across the country competed to become the first BBQ Champ by completing weekly outdoor cuisine challenges and Simon won the top prize of £25,000.
