The countdown to this month’s fourth Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival got underway last night (Thursday) with a special launch party.
Burnham’s Mayor Martin Cox was among the guests at the event, attended by over 50 people at Benton Furniture in Highbridge, which provided a sneak peak at what will be happening.
The organisers, Bev and Sarah Milner Simonds, said the event on Saturday May 24th will be even bigger than the previous three.
Over 80 stallholders and chefs from across Somerset will offer tastings, samples and opportunities for visitors to hear the stories behind local products.
The festival will also include the Great Burnham Bake Off, Burnham Brew Off and a Chilli Cook-Off which will include the south west heats of The UK Chilli Cook-Off.
Three venues will be busy with stallholders – the Baptist Hall, Methodist Church and Princess Theatre. Visitors will also be able to claim a free stick of rock, from Burnham’s Sweet Shack, as they enter.
“It was great to see so many traders and supporters of the festival at our launch party. It’s great to have the encouragement from peope who love the festival – it really helps to motivate us,” said Bev.
Burnham Mayor Cllr Martin Cox told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m delighted that the festival is returning again on May 24th with more attractions and stalls than ever – I intend to be there for the whole day. I congratulate Bev and Sarah for their infectious enthusiasm with this event, which brings a lot of people into the town.”
Entry to the festival will be free and venues open at 9am. Several roads in the town centre will be closed.
