A home brew competition will be held for the first time during Burnham-On-Sea’s Food and Drink Festival next month.
The ‘Great Burnham Brew Off’ will see amateur cider makers competing to see who can make the best farmhouse cider.
Festival organiser Beverley Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Following the success of The Great Burnham Bake Off last year we wanted to expand the competitions and, being in Somerset, a celebration of local cider seemed very apt.”
The cider needs to be delivered to Burnham’s Princess Theatre on the day of the festival, Saturday May 25th, before 2pm with a competed entry form and the winner will be announced at 4pm.
Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) winner Steve Dean from the Crossways Inn in West Huntspill (pictured) will lead the judging.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am really looking forward to tasting some top home brew cider. I understand they had 49 entries for the Bake Off last year – I think I can manage the same in cider! Somerset is the home of cider so I hope we have the best home brew too.”

The festival will run all day on May 25th with 60 stall holders, free demonstrations and taster sessions from top chefs and a big outdoor food and drink market in Victoria Street.
