-

The popular folk festival opened on Thursday at the Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street with a night of live music from Sur Les Docks (pictured right) and local groups No Shame and Andrew’s Half Sister.

FolkFest chairman Graham Cook told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a great start to the weekend – over 100 people enjoyed a great night’s entertainment.”

Tonight’s grand opening concert at The Princess Theatre gets underway at 8pm and will feature vibrant young folk trio Uiscedwr, (pictured below), who are previous winners of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, and Coracle.

A few last tickets, costing £10 each, are available from Sea Breeze in Victoria Street or by calling 01278 783276.

The FolkFest continues on Saturday (September 3rd) with over 70 live musical acts and dance groups performing in venues across Burnham.

Saturday’s free music starts at 1pm and continues until 11pm in The Waterfront Pub, The Clarence, The Railway, S&D, The Ritz Club, The Pier Tavern and The Victoria. The full schedule is available here.

Along with music, there will also be a craft fair in the town centre on Saturday from 10am-5pm plus workshops at the Baptist Church and dance performances outside.

It will be followed on Sunday by the annual Folk In The Park in Burnham’s Manor Gardens from 12pm-6pm.

Entertainment will include the The Carrvick Sisters, Fallen Apples, Sail Pattern and 3 Daft Monkeys plus The Mudlarks, Coastal Cloggers and Tiger Feet Appalachian dancers. Entry will be free.
