Capacity crowd at opening concert of Burnham’s Folkfest weekend

-

A capacity audience crowded into Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Social Club on Friday night (September 4th) for the opening performance of this weekend’s Folkfest music festival.

Several hundred people watched top folk group Mad Dog McRea in action, as pictured here.

The opening gig was so popular that organisers even had to turn away a coach full of music fans who had not bought tickets in advance.

“Mad Dog McRea’s lively mix Irish and Scottish folk, rock, country and East European tunes was a great hit with everyone and got the weekend off to a great start,” Folkfest’s Dominic Wills told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The music continues on Saturday with dozens of free music performances across the town throughout the day and into the evening.

They include The Spikedrivers, one of the UK’s foremost blues groups at 9.30pm in the Victoria. Celtic band Jankie Fardal will be in action at 9.30pm in The Lighthouse Inn.

Bag of Rats will peform at 8pm in Chaplins, The Roots Union are on at 8pm in The Railway, and The Fos Brothers will appear at the Pier from 9.30pm. The Surfin’ Turnips at the S&D at 9.30pm.
