Big crowds of visitors and residents flocked to pubs and venues across Burnham-On-Sea throughout the weekend when over 100 hours of live music and dance was performed during the town’s second annual FolkFest.

The three-day event ended on Sunday (September 2nd) after record crowds had filled the town’s Manor Gardens for the six-hour Folk In The Park concert.

It came after a day of non-stop entertainment across the town on Saturday and a concert on Friday.

FolkFest Chairman Graham Cook (pictured below with several of the event’s organisers) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been an absolutely fabulous weekend from start to finish.”

“We’ve had visitors coming into the town from across the country – including from London, the Isle Of Wight and Cornwall – and this has created a real buzz.”

“Everyone has enjoyed themselves and I’m pleased to say there was no reported trouble during the weekend. We thank everyone for their support.”

FolkFest 2007 got underway on Friday with a successful concert at the Ritz Social Club when Irish Band Black Friday performed in front of a capacity crowd.

On Saturday, scores of music acts performed at pubs across the town over eleven fun-packed hours. Venues included The Ritz Social Club, The Victoria Inn, The Railway, The Somerset and Dorset, The Lighthouse, Chaplins, The Old Pier Tavern and the Royal Clarence. Family workshops were held at the Baptist Church Hall, a craft fair was well-supported in the High street and a new ‘kidzone’ organised at the Methodist Hall was also well attended.

Dancers and entertainers performed outside the Baptist Church Hall throughout Saturday and the Community Centre also hosted a well-attended arts and crafts show. Sunday’s six-hour Folk in the Park included live performances from Dragonsfly, Ron Trueman Border, Jackie Oates and Bag of Rats, plus the Chalice Morris Men, Tiger Feet Appalachian Clog and The Langport Mummers.
