Commercial fly-tippers have illegally dumped thousands of leaflets into bins in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea, leaving them overflowing.
Somerset Waste Partnership has launched an investigation after large quantities of the leaflets were discarded during the past week.
The recycling bins in Burnham’s Lynton Road car park, pictured, have been particularly badly affected with rubbish overflowing for several days.
Nick Cater, spokesman for Somerset Waste Partnership, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Rogue businesses, which should pay to have their waste removed for recycling and disposal, have dumped commercial materials into the banks intended for domestic residents.”
“We are investigating why boxes of leaflets intended for door-to-door distribution have been left there.”
He added: “If anyone has any information about this fly-tipping crime, or sees it underway, they should stay safe while noting details of the individuals and their vehicles, and inform Sedgemoor District Council Customer Services on 0845 4082543 or by email at customer.services@sedgemoor.gov.uk.”
“Residents are urged not to add anything to one of these waste banks that is full, but to take their materials to a recycling centre or put them in their kerbside recycling boxes.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com reader Keith Hawkes, who took the photo above, hit out at the terrible state of the car park, saying: “How can we promote Burnham when we have an eyesore like this?”
