Crowds of visitors flocked to Burnham-On-Sea Horticultural Society’s annual Spring Show on Saturday (March 14th).
Organisers said the event, held in the hall at Burnham’s St Andrew’s School, had been “a great success” with more than 170 entries on display.
Show Secretary David Bryant told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We saw a good range and quality of entries again this year, although the numbers were slightly on previous years.”
“The weather hasn’t been kind to our local gardeners – it’s been a difficult growing year with cold snaps and mild spells.”
“Gardeners have been forced to grow their entries inside which hit some of the floral classes. That said, the members’ bulb classes were very good and the judges praised the quality.”
In addition to flowers, the entries included gardening, cookery, floral art and photography categories.
Alan Purnell won three trophies for his colourful blooms while the overall trophy for the best exhibit in the show was also won by Alan. The cup for the most points in the children’s classes was won by six year-old Burnham resident James Newman.
