These are the incredible scenes of Somerset’s flooding this week that a Burnham-On-Sea microlight enthusiast has captured on camera.
Jeff Thomas got a ‘birds-eye view’ of the widespread flooding when he flew in his microlight from Westonzoyland over Burrowbridge, Glastonbury, Middlezoy and Muchelney (right).
Jeff told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “While the Somerset moors are expected to flood in winter – they are flood plains and that is their job after all – the current flooding is more extensive than normal and greater than a year ago.”
“The photographs were taken from an altitude of between 1,000 and 7,000 feet. From the air it appears that a large part of Somerset is under water, extending from the flooded moors around Mere and Godney near Glastonbury right the way south to Creech St Michael near Taunton. All together quite a spectacle.”
16,000 acres have been under water over the past week in Sedgemoor, which is in excess of 11.5% of the district’s landmass.
