Flood Watch remains in place on River Brue in Highbridge after flooding

-

A Flood Watch remained in place for the River Brue in Highbridge on Saturday morning (January 12th) after Friday’s heavy rain led to flooding across the region.

Over 50mm of rain fell in just a few hours, leaving roads in our area under water.

The Environment Agency placed a Flood Warning on the River Brue, from Lovington to Highbridge, as a precaution.

The warning was still in place on Saturday morning, although it was expected to be lifted later in the day.

On Friday, several parts of Love Lane were under pools of water, pictured at the top of this page, while part of the Northern Esplanade was partially blocked by pools of water near the Sailing Club (pictured).

Train commuters using Highbridge Railway Station suffered disruption on Friday evening, with many trains cancelled or delayed. The service from Bristol Temple Meads via Weston-super-Mare due at 18:27 was cancelled, as was the 18:39 from Taunton 18:39, and the 19:31 from Cardiff.

Meanwhile, paths around Apex Wildlife Park’s lakes disappeared under several inches of water, as the water levels of the lakes rose, as below.
