Plans to convert Highbridge’s Post Office building into a development of seven new flats have been rejected by the Planning Inspectorate this week following a formal appeal.
The owner of 9 Church Street applied for the change of use, conversion and extension of the post office, shop, storage and a flat into a new, smaller ground floor shop plus seven flats.
However, Sedgemoor’s Development Control Committee rejected the application last July, and the owner decided to appeal against the decision through the Planning Inspectorate.
“The plans were turned down because members felt the proposals would have led to an overdevelopment of the site. The building would also have lacked amenities and recycling facilities,” a district council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
In a report issued this week, an inspector from the Planning Inspectorate upheld the earlier judgement and stated that the site would have insufficient outdoor amenity space for future residents.
