Sea anglers in Burnham-On-Sea are enjoying a bumper season of catches following several lean years.
Dave Harding, pictured, reeled in this 9lb 12oz bass from his boat near Burnham on Sunday (July 31st), which is one of several big catches during recent weeks.
“It has been a good season so far, with lots of skate and smoothounds being landed plus the occasional big bass,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“This was a personal best for me, but nowhere near the record. My son holds the long-standing record at Burnham Boat Owners Association for the biggest bass after catching a 13lb 6oz fish when he was just fifteen.”
Pete Nicholson, who is also a member of Burnham Boat Owners Association, added: “It’s good to see the water recovering. There has been something of a glut of smoothounds recently off Burnham – I caught a 16lb 16oz fish in July and we’re seeing 15-20 good sized fish being caught each session at the moment. It’s worth noting they are being returned to the water.”
