Over sixty anglers lined Burnham-On-Sea’s beach for a charity match on Sunday (March 22nd)… but the fish stayed away!
The long-established competition, organised by Weston Outcasts Sea Angling Club, was well supported by 64 anglers, however they were disappointed by the catches. Over the course of four hours, just fifteen fish were caught.
“We’ve had a good turnout from anglers, but the catches have been few and far between,” match secretary Neil Apperley told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Of the fifteen fish caught, there were 14 flounders and one small whiting. The catches have been poor here in recent years.”
Local angler Steve Pettitt, pictured above, was delighted with his 717g flounder, which earned him second place. First was Reg Clugh and third was Dave Gracie.
The group was delighted to present a cheque for £875 to BARB, the charity that runs Burnham’s life-saving rescue hovercrafts, from the sale of raffle tickets and entry fees.
The competition was sponsored by Bluewater Finance, with first prize being £250, £100 for second place, and £50 for third.
