More than 40 anglers took to the waters around Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (October 15th) to compete in the first boat fishing competition of the new season.
The seven-hour event was organised by Burnham Boat Owners Sea Angling Association and was well supported by 41 anglers on a flotilla of 18 boats.
The top prize was won by Richard Major and Mark Hathaway (pictured above) with their 70lb haul, which included several Conger Eels, one of which weighed 20lb 10oz, and a large Bull Huss.
Picking up a cheque for £165, Mark declined to reveal where their big catch had been caught in Bridgwater Bay, but said it had been a “good spot and a very good day!”
In second place were Neil Flay and Steve George with 24lb of fish, while third spot was taken by Mike Trott (pictured right) and two guests who reeled in a combined catch of 26lb, which included two Thornback Rays. Mike was declared the winner of the Thornback Pool.
Fourth overall was John Labbe with a Bull Huss weighing 4lb 2oz, and fifth spot was taken by John May with his 3lb 20z Cod.
Sixth place went to Shawn Norris, who reeled in a 2lb 6oz Dog Fish, while the Juniors competition was won by Anthony Georgiou with a 2lb 10oz Bull Huss.
Organisers thanked Mobile Marine Engineers Ltd for their generous sponsorship of the event, which included a £250 prize pool.
