Concerns that this fishing boat had run aground on the far side of Stert Island led to a lifeboat from Burnham-On-Sea being called out on Tuesday evening.
The RNLI was paged shortly after 4pm after fears that the blue-hulled vessel may be aground with a dropping tide around it.
Burnham’s D-class lifeboat Puffin was launched and the crew proceeded to search for the vessel, finding it shortly afterwards north of Stert Island, but not in difficulty.
A radio contact with the craft verified that they were busy fishing in four feet of water and had not experienced any problems.
The crews were stood down and a spokesman from Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This was a false alarm with good intent as they could have been stuck and may have needed help. It is good to know we have some eagle-eyed members of the public out there who are invaluable in helping us keep the coast safe.”
