Burnham’s spectacular seafront fireworks attract record crowds

-

Thousands of spectators lined Burnham’s seafront to watch the town’s spectacular fireworks display last night (Sunday, November 6th), which started with one minute’s silence in memory of those who were killed in Friday’s M5 motorway crash.

The dazzling 25-minute programme saw 3,500 fireworks launched into the air, accompanied by music, from the beach.

Burnham’s Mayor, Michael Clarke, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a fantastic show that greatly exceeded expectations and it was wonderful to see a record large crowd on the seafront enjoying the display.”

“We felt it was fitting to mark the terrible events of last Friday with a minute’s silence.”

“The way this was respected was testament to the good nature of the people of Burnham. Our thoughts go to all the families affected.”

Matthew Tosh from Skyburst, the firm that runs the display on behalf of the Town Council, said the event had run “perfectly to schedule”.

This year’s display was funded by the Town Council with the support of several local businesses, including Home Farm Caravan Park, Newcombe Caravan Park, Burnham-On-Sea Holiday Village, Highbridge Caravan Centre, Sandyglade Caravan Park, Unity Farm Holiday Centre and Dolphin Caravan Park.
