Heavy rain failed to halt Sunday’s seafront fireworks in Burnham-On-Sea which were watched by a crowd of around 3,000 people.
Umbrellas were out in force, but spectators were rewarded with a spectacular display that lasted over 20-minutes.
Fired from a specially-built platform on the town’s jetty, the fireworks were reflected on the sea water.
This year’s event was funded by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council with support from local businesses including Highbridge Caravans, Unity Farm, Positive Wealth Creation, Retreat Caravan Park, Newcombe Caravan Park and Skyburst Illuminations.
Burnham and Highbridge Mayor, Cllr Martin Cox, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a shame about the rain, but we were so relieved that the high winds stayed away and allowed the display to go ahead.”
“It was great to see such large crowds enjoying the event – the fireworks and the sound were wonderful. The finale was really heart-stopping, just superb!”
Large crowds lined The Esplanade to watch the display, which was organised by the Town Council in the run-up to Monday’s Burnham Carnival. Burnham Town Team also gave its support by providing marshalls.
The event was free of charge to spectators, who were encouraged to give donations to the charity collectors provided by Burnham’s Rotary Club.
